'Cobra' Desk Lamp , c.1943

William F. Masterson Design

The "Cobra Lamp" has become a design icon, representative of the transition between the streamline styles dominant before WWII and the freeform biomorphism of early mid-century modern and "googie" design. This vintage lamp is in excellent condition with original patinae. The bulb reflector is present (a part often missing). This part reflects light upward and off the chade as opposed to the direct incandescent light provided by a bare bulb.

Chase Chrome 'Saturn' Lamp, c.1933

Walter Von Nessen Design

Designed for the 1933 Chicago World's Fair by Walter Von Nessen on behalf of Chase Brass, this lamp was produced in both brass and chrome versions. The chrome version is considerably more rare and has surfaced recently at auction for considerable value. Base and shade are chrome with shade having small star cutouts. The shade rotates frely on the globe allowing direction of light. This piece is completely original down to the cord and is in excellent condition. Because of its high profile, rarity and condition, this is considered to be an excellent investment quality lamp.

Freeform "Saturn" Lamps, c.1952

David Borowitz Design

Early Borowitz freeform incorporating elements of both streamline and post-war biomorphism. Creamic base with tall fiberglass speckled shade. Pair is original with original shades. Bases are flawless. Shades show minor signs of tinting near bulb, stronger on one side than the other and only noticeable when not lit upon close examination. Both a stunning and important decorative example of early mid-century modernism.

"Flex-O-Lamp", c.1951

I. Fiori Design

The 'Flex-o-lamp" series represented a milestone in office desk lighting through its use if flourescent bulbs and its previously unmatched cantilievered flexibility. The design is a ribust example of post-war streamline. This example has been completely overhauled, inside and out and is in excellent working and cosmetic condition. The lap accepts two standard fluorescent bulbs. paint is period silver-blue hammertone textured finish.

Glass "Saturn" Lamp, c.1935

Henry M. Laxer Design

H. M. Laxer designed numerous high style moderne glass lamp bases. Each was molded in clear glass and painted on the inside, so as to accentuate the details as they reflected light is the clear glass surface. Although not one of Laxer's patented designs, this lamp is in his unique style and material. The design of the tilted Saturn ring was a common theme in decorative items after the 1933-34 Chicago World's Fair, and was usedto communicate futuristism or utopianism. This example is in pefect cosmetic condition. The interior has been re-painted with a matching color to original, It has been rewired using historically correct rayon sleeved cord and a vintage bakelite power plug.
